About Us

On the 6th September 2013 we formed a small committee to try to get LRC affiliated so that everyone who runs with us would be insured & have safety in numbers.

We sourced out an organisation that agreed to fund Andy Crozier and Gaynor Williams to get trained up as Run Leaders, which was a requirement needed to become affiliated.  We the applied to UK Athletics. It was not as easy as it seemed as they thought there was no need for another club in the area and advised us to latch onto one of the bigger clubs as an off shoot.  A few phone calls, letters and rants, we got the confirmation on 15th November 2013 that Lawley Running Club was affiliated with England Athletics.

Now we decided to do our 1st Couch to 5k, we thought as it was the 6th Jan just a few people might do it in the New Year, but it wasn’t just a few. We all took punts around 25/30 and laughed when Dom said 50, so on the 1st night when we registered 67 and some never registered till the following night , and more came the week after.

The first Couch to 5k Programme had 172 people register and try it out, a lot stuck to it too in some awful weather and have to say the club owes a huge debt of gratitude to the club runners who said they would help out being novices themselves. Since then we have gone onto run two  Couch to 5K programmes each year with over 450 benefiting from the programme

On March 8th 2014 we took over our first Lawley Running Club takeover of Telford parkrun and must say that had to be one of our proudest achivements since then we have continued to support Telford parkrun taking over the complete marshalling numerous times per year. On the subject of parkrun, as a club Lawley Running Club have 307 runners (as of Dec 2016) registered completed 5076 runs covering a staggering 25,380 Kilometers or 15,770  miles to date (Telford too the Falkland’s Isles and back). Not to mention all those who have given back by marshalling.

As well as supporting Telford parkrun many of our runners at Lawley Running club has actively support Telfords Junior parkrun on a Sunday morning this is where the future generations of runners will come from with 19 youngsters representing Lawley running club they have completed 291 runs, 582 kilometers 361miles.

Since the club was formed our members have gone from strength too strength with people achieving more than they would ever have dreamed about when starting out completing everything from Colour Runs through to Ultras, Lawley running Club doesn’t even stop in the UK with many members taking on challenges abroad including Amsterdam, Dublin, New York, Rome and many more.

Over the years we have had built up a close relationship with Energize who sort out funding for sports clubs etc. and England Athletics who we are affiliated with and they are not surprised with how the club has grown year on year “Lawley running club has a strong community focus that reaches out to a huge range of runners, they have a proven track record of supporting all types of people from completely inactive to the regular runners to discover the joys of running” (Ben Harper, Senior Sports Manager Energize Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin).

As a club we are more than just runners we are family focused club with numerous events throughout the year that involve the whole family, Lawley Running Club is renowned for supporting event and turning up on mass Market Drayton Lawley was represented by over 82 runners the largest single club present and Liverpool rock and roll Marathon we were the 8 largest represented club in the country.

Lawley Running Club currently organise two not for profit the Lawley 5km Fun Run around the streets of Lawley, and The Beckbury Trail a 5.6 mile “challenging but rewarding” trail run through the Shropshire countryside, with these events we have raised in excess of £5000.00 for local charities.
