Welcome
Nicola Wright – General Secretary welcomed everyone to the 5th Annual General Meeting of Lawley Running Club.
Chairman’s Report – Andy Crozier
Thank you for coming tonight to our 5th AGM. Over the last year we have worked hard to make sure that the club is compliant with all health and safety and welfare legislation under the guidelines of England Athletics and government legislation.
We had every intention to work towards Club Mark but decided with the introduction of the GDPR and the changes to systems and practices we would hold off until this had been implemented and then look to gain this accreditation.
We have had a great year and on 12 November 2018 we celebrate our 5th birthday as an affiliated club.
Earlier in the year we had a visit from the England Athletics CEO Chris Jones and the Head of Business Dean Hardman who came and joined us on a run night. They were both very impressed about the club, how friendly everyone was. The report they published was positive.
There have been many events over the last 12 months and it has been great to see how friendships have formed. Just this last weekend we saw over 30 members take part in Equinox 24 hour challenge, Brewood 10K, Relay Ultra, Stafford 10K and Disneyland Paris 5K, 10K and half marathon.
On top of peoples achievement I feel really proud when I get an email or tweet to say how great Lawley have been in either a volunteer role or helping a runner achieve a PB or just helping someone who is struggling – these are the things which make us great.
My last thing to do as Chairman is a huge thank all our Run Leaders and Coaches, who are out every week to lead groups and without them the club would not go ahead and to the Committee Members who do all the things that people do not see to make sure that the club carries on running smoothly.

Virgin London Marathon Places
The balloting system of club places was discussed in regard to the 2020 London Marathon and whether the club places balloting system should change.
The current balloting system is that 1 place is allocated via a club members vote and the remaining places are drawn randomly and a reserve place is drawn.
2 members of club had forwarded in writing to Andy Crozier – Chairperson a request about changing the system so that all places are “pull from the hat” and that the current voting of 1 place is discontinued. They also suggested that a “member poll” take place. The committee offered the AGM a further meeting to discuss this in November.
At request of club members at the AGM, .a ballot was conducted to see if a further meeting was needed to discuss the balloting system and the consensus (67% of the meeting) was that they did not feel that another meeting was necessary and that the balloting decision would be made at this AGM. The outcome was that the current system in place should be carried forward to VLM 2020.
It was also noted that members at the AGM felt that for the 2021 club places that the current eligibility criteria is not strict enough and over the next 12 months the committee and members to look at eligibility criteria for the places and make proposals to the 2019 AGM.
Lawley Running Club for the Future
- To investigate Club Mark and apply for accreditation.
- To introduce Junior Track Sessions with Coach Matt Wright as an extension to our current track session. Andy Crozier to look at external funding.
- Andy Crozier welcomed Sara Paskin to the role of Mental Health Ambassador for the Club.
Any Other Business
- An application for parking charges at Morrisons have been made to Telford and Wrekin Council. We will keep members informed of any changes that will affect them and the Committee to look at contingency plans if this application is approved.
- Club Kit – Robert Wood asked if the Committee could look at the range of club kit which is available. Even if not running in races etc, members like to wear LRC branded clothing so would like to purchase polo shirts etc. Committee to look into this over next 12 months.
- Membership – Robert Wood asked if our membership could be renewed every 12 months from the date that a member joined instead of everyone renewing / joining every April. It was explained that this is due to England Athletics membership running from April – March every year.
