March Newsletter 2021

This month – News from the Chair, club restarting, membership news, kit ordering, running challenges, and save the dates.

Chair’s News.

As I write this, we are all waiting with bated breath to get back to club running and track. It has been a long time coming and I, for one, am excited to be out running again.

It was great to sign the contract with Telford and Wrekin to get track up and running (sorry about the pun). I’m particularly excited to see the juniors at track sessions, and soon Junior parkrun may restart, too. Talking of parkrun, I’m hoping that we will all be back at Telford Town Park very soon, although I am not sure how slow my 5k will be!

I’m always looking for ways to promote our club, and after a request from Cllr Raj Mehta of Lawley Parish Council to make a 5 minute video clip for his healthy living YouTube channel, I duly did! Filming yourself is harder than it looks ….. especially with a lively dog.

At present, I’m working through the club policies in order to update them and have been very grateful for the support from England Athletics. Keep an eye on the website for the updated version

Finally, membership is due soon and we have a reduced price for ‘early birds’, so get sigining up. You know it makes sense!

Best wishes

Club Runs Restarting.

We are looking forward to club runs resuming on Monday the 29th of March (Subject to government guidance).  We are using the same system on runtogether to book on the runs as before (see previous email for a reminder). The sessions are bookable now. Keep an eye on Facebook and the website for any last minute updates.

Track sessions are starting up again with our coaches – both Junior sessions and adult sessions. The same booking system is used and there is a charge of £2 for adult track session and £1 for junior track session.

Please make sure you have a wristband and ice tag for your runs. If you have not picked up your wristband yet, then contact membership@lawleyrunningclub.co.uk

Running Challenges.

With club runs restarting we bid a fond farewell to the running challenges. You still have a couple of days to get your birthday challenge photos and complete runs for you run your house number challenge. The 40 miles for lent challenge will finish on the 29th March, so a few more days to get that completed.

A huge thanks to Kev Brierley who has kept us all motivated during the three lockdowns.

Save The Date.

Optimistic planning is going ahead for two of our events, however Shifnal half marathon which we help support has made the decision to not go ahead this year.

Lawley fun run – 11th September

Beckbury Trail run –21st November

Neither of these events are bookable currently, however we are keeping our fingers crossed and planning in case the events are permitted within government and UKA guidance. We will, of course, need the usual enthusiastic volunteers and marshals who make these events so memorable and enjoyable for the participants.

Looking forward to … lighter nights, warmer weather, spring showers, sharing runs with a post run coffee/beer (socially distanced and in an outside venue but still!!)

Safe running and have an ‘egg’cellent Easter.
